Very nice blog.....It made laugh and nostaligic at the same time. Hey your sons may not be proud of your cooking but they sure will be proud of their mother's witty writing skills.

my my verbosevjiu,

looks like all daughters away from their mom's are in the same boat. my mom's kitchen was loaded with all appliances and ingredients, familiar and unfamiliar. as we were growing up and we developed the taste for 'foreign' cuisines, my mom made sure she attended cookery classes and learn all of them and cooked for us. my sisters and i are good cooks, but not great like my mom. if you have to brighten up my mom's day, all that u have to do is call her and ask her for one of 'her' recipes. even today she collects recipes for my sisters/me and mails them promptly. if i had to cook all of them, i wud need three more lives.

Day's are not far off when children may write blogs titled "10 dishes I miss from my Dad's kichen" or " 10 dishes my Mom missed  from Dad's kichen".I too miss kalan, olan, erisheri, koottu, molagutal, avial, apart from ada pradaman, chakka pradaman, idichu puzhunju payasam prepared by my mother in real Palakkadu style. There must be a large number of people to eat and appreciate the person. Probably such people are  more in number ie "Shapatturamans" than real good experts on the culinary art.
Your article is a nice tribute to your mother and a good appetiser for  connoisseurs of food..
